Jet Reports 2009 - allow consultants to work on both version

Postby kamil.karbowiak on Mon Feb 08, 2010 4:49 pm

Hi all, I am passing our consultants request for a Jet Reports 2009 usage on a customer site even though they have not updated to Jet 2009. (Various reasons... some of them can't use Jet Reports 2009 due to an old version of NAV ). Couple of our partner's consultants requested to have Jet Reports 2009 work without having to install Jet Reports 2009 and reinstalling to JEt v7. :D

Hope this could be possible :)

It would make me also very happy if this can be realized somehow!

Some clients are still on v7 and to make sure I am not getting any backwards compatiblity problems, it would help a great deal to have v7 AND 2009 installed at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is definitely something we've heard from our internal consultants as well. This is technically a very difficult problem, as the add-ins are all named "JetReports" and are located in the same directory. We learned the hard way that this is a requirement for backwards compatibility of scheduled tasks that are pointing to "%Program Files%\JetReports\Autopilot.exe". One workaround, although not ideal, is to design the reports in 2009 and just be sure that they are in design mode when you give them to your users. That of course requires that a Designer at the client site is able to run them before distributing them to Viewers.

That being said, we are aware that this is a limitation and appreciate the feedback. If there is anything we can do to solve this problem we will definitely consider it.
